Current Volunteer Opportunities (Unpaid Positions)
Volunteer Medical Staff needed for Less than 1 month
Opportunity Description: Purpose: Our volunteers empower children, youth and families living with HIV/AIDS. Our volunteers bring diverse experience and various backgrounds to Camp Laurel and are strong, unique role models for our campers and help our campers become strong, confident, positive individuals. Camp Laurel volunteers are so important because our campers perhaps would not otherwise have had such a positive influence in their lives. Responsibilities: • Maintain health and safety of all campers • Administration of all medication that is prescribed to a camper, volunteer, or staff member by a licensed practitioner. This includes all prescription and over-the-counter medications. • Assess and provide treatment for acute injuries/illnesses (as allowed by license). • Medical volunteers should not hesitate to interact with campers in a fun, relaxed way (e.g. play games, join in and have fun, etc.) • Capacity to deal with highly stressful (physically and emotionally) situations with composure. Minimum Qualifications: • LVN, RN, NP, PA or MD with current CA medical license. • Desire and ability to work with children in the outdoors. Prior experience working with children beneficial. • Have no hesitations about working with children or adults with HIV/AIDS. • Ability to relate to one’s peer group and work well with people from diverse backgrounds. • Ability to accept supervision, guidance, and constructive feedback. • A positive role model for children and peers (exemplary character, good judgment, approachable, etc.) • Possess enthusiasm, patience, and high degree of self-control. Priority will be given to applications received by December 21, 2007 for Winter Camp 2008. Time Commitment: Camp is a residential camp. Which involves a 24 hr commitment at a 5 or 7-day camp. Winter Camp 2008 will be February 14-18, 2008; Summer Camp will be July 5-12, 2008 and Teen Adventure Camp August 2-9, 2008. Benefits: “The kids at Camp Laurel are unlike any I’ve encountered before.
